Wrecked To Rooted — Standing Tall Through The Storm

TREES

BY CRYSTAL JACKSON

Once I moved with each breath of wind,
But now I’m standing tall.
The storms can come to shake my stand,
But I won’t be moved at all.

Gone are the days I suffered long,
Each night escaping in my head.
To dream of all I could not do,
From the comfort of my bed.

But now I court the change that comes,
I choose the path my steps lead down.
I may stumble, fall, or fail,
But I’ll not turn around.

Once I let myself be wrecked,
On every friendly-seeming shore.
Now I ride the waves, the wind,
I will be wrecked no more.
