Sunshine Girl, I’ll Never Forget What You Did For Me

Sunshine Girl

I imagine you holding your child with such
Impossible grace
In dew drenched fields
With your angelic face
And Sunshine hair and
Summer blue eyes
Onto boardwalks, cotton candy
Greasy french fries
Skeet ball dinging and pinball
Parades and your mom like
Serenity and smile charades
As you move like music into the
Firefly night
A haunting melody in a minor key
I’ll never forget what you did for
Me last night when you told me I
Was okay by you
And in the morning I believed it
Might really be true
I give you my words and my soul
To misconstrue — a left-handed gift
I hand over to you
