I am 35 weeks pregnant. My stomach has gotten smashed up and under my rib cage to make room for this beautiful, growing baby boy inside of me. Eating has become rough, nothing sounds tasty and heartburn happens frequently.
I am planning on a home-birth with a wonderful midwife, doula, and husband team. I have been preparing and learning and feeling my way through this journey for over eight months. I am blessed with incredible movement arts teachers and healing arts practitioners who encourage me to learn, ask questions, and make my own choices for my body and my life beliefs. It’s been a helluva ride!
As I prepare for the last month or so of pregnancy, I’ve been consuming tons of lacto-fermented veggies and gorgeous home birth stories.
I have delighted in watching incredible videos like “Birth Becomes Her”, and reading fantastic stories, such as Ina May Gaskin’s “Spiritual Midwifery” and “Yoga Sadhana for Mothers” by Sharmila Desai and Anna Wise.
Enjoying the deliciousness of these brain foods has got me thinking — what are we feeding ourselves?
Not just in the “consuming food nutrition” sense and the difference between puffed corn fried doodles vs. rice and steamed veggies — but, what are we taking into our eyes and into our brains and hearts?
What are we choosing to tune into, and how is that content seriously nourishing our whole beings? How can I ensure my sustenance choices are nourishing to my mind, body, and spirit?
What am I consuming? What “foods”? Can I see the food I choose as the media and stories I take in? I choose to consume food that creates neural connections and oxytocin released into my bloodstream, smiles and laughter effortlessly generated, and foods that increase my capacity to love.
